Cancer as a consequence of Obesity
Obesity is the mother cause of many diseases including cardio-vascular, diabetes, cancer, respiratory tract, arthritis, reproductive system and others.
Basically obesity is not a problem of physical appearance but is a conglomeration of health disorders. Researchers have over the year concluded that obesity is one condition that may set in motion various serious illnesses, including near lethal heart attack and cancer.
Though causes of cancer are still not known but prevalence of this disease among obese people has been more than those who are fit, slim and trim. Oncologists – cancer specialists – hold that those who are obese or overweight run more risks of getting cancer of the uterus, colon, gall bladder, prostrate, kidney and few other organs.
It does not mean that only obese or overweight people can get cancer of colon or kidneys or of prostrate glands, even normal people can but ratio of incidence is more towards those who are obese. Extra flesh or extra weight may be a contributing factor. In other words if you were not obese, there could be a possibility of you not getting the cancer of colon or kidney. But this is still to be scientifically established or corroborated.
Studies so far also reveal that women who tend to gain weight in an abnormal way, especially between the age of 18 and 50, run more risk of getting cancer. They become prone to postmenopausal breast cancer.
